American flagUAB expresses our deep gratitude to our men and women in uniform on this Veterans Day. We are so appreciative of your service and sacrifice around our nation and around the globe. A special word of thanks to those veterans who are working and studying on our campus as well as our outstanding ROTC officers and cadets.

This Veterans Day is all the more special as we present the keys to our recently completed Habitat for Humanity House to U.S. Navy veteran Toni Byrd and herUAB Benevolent Fund volunteers work on the Habitat house daughter Sydney. Our thanks to Ms. Byrd for her service and best wishes to her and Sydney on their new home. More than 1,650 UAB employees and students volunteered 7,500 hours to the construction, inspired by that spirit of giving back that has enabled our Benevolent Fund to achieve a record $2 million in employee gifts to local non-profit groups.

UAB continues to build on strong and productive partnerships with our military, the Department of Defense and the Veterans Administration. We are expanding educational opportunities for veterans and have added dedicated space on the third floor of the Hill Student Center for the Veterans Student Center. We are very pleased that our enrollment of student-veterans is growing significantly and we appreciate all that these talented and motivated veterans bring to our campus culture.

With these and other efforts, UAB is committed—today and every day—to honoring our veterans and proudly serving those who serve.
