Stay active this holiday season with URec’s #MOVEmber

movember streamJoin University Recreation for #MOVEmber, a month of challenges, workouts and workshops scheduled throughout November and designed by University Recreation to help participants stay fit and active both mentally and physically throughout the holiday season. The month-long event will also incorporate recipes and tips for healthy eating from URec registered dietician Katie Ellison.

#MOVEmber participants can follow along on URec Facebook, Twitter and Instagram @UABURec to follow along with weekly challenges. Participants can also find a URec member and learn the Workout of the Month, which features exercises such as seated shoulder presses, leg extensions and standing bicep curls.

Week 1
Nov. 4-10

Weekly Challenge: Planks

Nutrition Tip: Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie recipe

Safe Lifting 101: Every Monday and Wednesday at noon, learn techniques such as correct spotting practices and how to use free weights properly and program workouts efficiently.

Week 2
Nov. 11-15 

Weekly Challenge: Wall sits

Exercising Your Thoughts: Learn about meditation, yoga and mental health

Nutrition Tip: Learn about how just a quarter-cup of blueberries can improve your brain’s executive functions based on research from the journal Nutrients.

Safe Lifting 101: Scheduled every Monday and Wednesday at noon

Weekly Challenge: Burpees

Nutrition Tip: Learn the best healthy alternatives to #TellYourMom about while cooking for holiday meals
