This week, UAB HR Benefits begins rolling out information about open enrollment each week to provide benefit-eligible employees time to review upcoming changes and make informed decisions for themselves and their families.
1. Open enrollment dates are set
UAB’s annual open enrollment for benefits will begin 7 a.m. Oct. 22 and concludes 5 p.m. Nov. 8. Eligible employees can choose among dental, vision and health insurance plans, plus voluntary life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance and tax-deferred spending accounts for health and dependent care for 2022. You can review all the information you need in the open enrollment toolkit anytime on the UAB for Me portal.
2. Action is required
This is an active open enrollment, which means any benefit-eligible employee who does not select a 2022 health care plan option during the enrollment period will not have UAB-provided health care coverage (medical, dental, vision) beginning January 2022. Detailed offerings of these plans will be provided in coming weeks to better enable you to make the best choice for your household.
3. Most premium rates are flat
Except for a small increase in VIVA UAB, premiums for medical, dental and vision coverage will not increase for 2022.
4. All plans will include some coverage for IVF treatments
UAB will offer a total of $10,000 in coverage for in vitro fertilization beginning in 2022. A $5,000 lifetime medical benefit will be added to all four plans for the 2022 plan year in addition to the $5,000 pharmacy benefit.
5. The Benefits Fair will adapt for social distancing
Similar to this past year, UAB will offer opportunities via Zoom and other social distance-friendly options for employees to ask questions and get answers before choosing benefits. More information will be provided as those plans are finalized. All open enrollment information will be housed in the UAB for Me portal. Meanwhile, contact your school/ department HR consultant or the UAB Benefits office, firstname.lastname@example.org or 934-3458.
