office space covid streamAs employees and students return to campus for the fall semester, UAB Facilities and Information Technology are adjusting certain services to accommodate social-distancing and hygiene protocols.

Read through the below list to familiarize yourself with small changes to office waste pickup, AskIT and more.

No individual office waste pickup

UAB Facilities environmental services staff will empty wastebaskets only in common areas such as break rooms or office kitchens. Staff will not enter individual offices or cubicles; employees who wish to have their receptacle emptied and re-lined should place it outside their office door.

Tip: To ensure food waste doesn’t sour, stagnate or smell up your office, place empty food and drink containers in common area wastebaskets.

Sterne Library walk-up location now appointment-only

As students return to campus, Information Technology will resume staffing the Sterne Library lobby location. First, contact AskIT either at 205-996-5555 or uab.edu/techhelp; if a resolution cannot be reached remotely, students can make an in-person appointment with AskIT.

Desktop Services available to remote and on-campus employees

IT Desktop Services continues services for on-campus employees with technical issues that cannot be resolved remotely. For employees continuing remote work, appointments can still be made to meet with Desktop Services; file a ticket at uab.edu/techhelp.

TechConnect is now online

UAB’s technology store, TechConnect, can be shopped online at uab.edu/techconnect; orders can be shipped directly to buyers. The on-campus TechConnect location in the Hill Student Center will reopen with the building. A soft opening of the new Apple on Campus store will happen at TechConnect this fall.
