Get your wheels back up to speed at the Blazer Bike Shop

Chain installations cost around $10, and tube or tire installations cost about $6, with thorough tune-ups running about $30.

Blazer Bike Shop mechanics have been trained by the local non-profit bicycle shop Redemptive Cycles, and if the shop can’t fix the issue, employees and students can schedule a drop-off time with Adventure Recreation and Redemptive Cycles will pick the bike up and make the repairs.

“Adventure Recreation is beyond excited to get the Blazer Bike Shop off the ground with the amazing support of the UAB Sustainability and Redemptive Cycles,” said Nancy Harrington, coordinator for UAB Adventure Recreation. “As an educational, adventure-based program, we hope to cultivate and promote an atmosphere here on campus where bike commuting is no longer intimidating.”

The Blazer Bike Shop is just one of several ways UAB is encouraging sustainable alternative transit on campus. Hundreds of bike racks are now available, and in August, the updated bicycle and other wheeled mobility devices policy began allowing indoor bicycle parking in non-patient care buildings.

Did you know you can get paid to commute by bike in Birmingham?

Student cyclists also can voluntarily register their bike with Parking and Transportation and receive a free helmet and U-lock, and those who log their trips to campus with CommuteSmart can get paid for commuting sustainably.
