Beginning Aug. 19, 22nd Street South will be closed between 4th Avenue South and 5th Avenue South. See a map of the closure area and detour.
If so, they could be a part of a study that looks at the long-term effects of receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Healthy children or children with conditions affecting their immune systems are eligible to enroll. Blood samples and nasal swabs will be collected every 2 months for one year. You or your child must be a male or female aged 6 to 17 years of age with an underlying medical condition, positive for COVID-19, and experiencing symptoms. If you qualify for the study, you will be provided the medication to take for 5 days. The entire study will last approximately 1 month, with several clinic and in home visits. Congenital CMV infection is the most common infection passed from the mother to baby during pregnancy. It is also the most common non-hereditary cause of hearing loss and brain damage in children. You or your child will have 3 injections, several months apart. You will have approximately 11 clinic visits over the 18 month study period. Saliva swabs, urine, and blood samples will be required. Effective Oct. 1, 2023, eligible UAB employees who are in their initial six-month probationary period will be allowed to utilize their accrued vacation time and three personal holidays with their supervisor's approval. Additionally, two extra holidays have been added to this year’s holiday calendar for eligible UAB employees — Dec. 26, 2023, and Jan. 2, 2024.
