New facilities are old hat at UAB

UC Building 2 insideIn June 1972, University College Building No. 2, pictured here six years later, opened as a home to classrooms, laboratories, administrative offices and several academic units. At the time, the campus was still developing, and in 1983, the 11-year-old building was renamed the Physical Sciences Building.

In 1995, after undergoing renovation, the facility was renamed the Chemistry Building, which it remains 23 years later. The UAB campus continues to develop; the Chemistry Building now sits on the east edge of the Campus Green, next to the development of a new College of Arts and Sciences building, slated for opening in fall 2019.

But Blazers don’t have to wait until then to see a crop of new buildings open up on campus, just like the University College No. 2 building did nearly 50 years ago. In August and September, the new UAB Police Department headquarters, the new Collat School of Business, the new Intramural and Club Sports Complex and the new School of Nursing building will open. Be sure to add all four dates to your calendar.
