Student Julia Knight works in the chemistry laboratory in 1967, one year after the Department of Chemistry was established as one of the original academic units in the College of General Studies. In 1973 it became a part of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. It became one of 19 departments included in UAB’s new College of Arts and Sciences in January 2010.
