band insideThe Marching Blazers made their debut at an away football game in the 1994 season before debuting at home in Legion Field Sept. 17. Department of Music Professor Clifford Winter, second from right, was band director. Though UAB had hosted a pep band for basketball games since the late 1970s, a marching band to perform during halftime shows was needed after UAB joined the National Collegiate Athletic Association in 1991.

The Marching Blazers still join the football team for each home and away game — and look sharp doing it after debuting brand-new uniforms this past season to celebrate the return of UAB Football. Blazer fans can check out the Marching Blazers’ new show, “Rockstar,” featuring music from ‘80s rock bands, when UAB plays at home at Legion Field Sept. 29 against the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
