Optometry student Terrence N. Ingraham examined a patient in May 1978. Ingraham received his doctor of optometry degree from the UAB School of Optometry in June 1978, becoming the first black graduate of the school.
This past Friday, 45 students graduated with doctor of optometry degrees — including two black students, four Asian American students, two Hispanic students and one American Indian student.
