Vaccines bring new holiday cheer to UAB’s medical campus

jeff hospital 65 insideIn ceremonies held Dec. 26-30, 1940, Jefferson County officials dedicated Jefferson Hospital, the county’s new private-pay hospital, which opened the following February. In 1944, Jefferson Hospital and the adjacent Hillman Hospital were deeded to the University of Alabama for use as part of the university’s new medical center in Birmingham. Renamed Jefferson Tower, the building remains a major component of UAB’s multiblock hospital complex, pictured here decorated for the holidays in 1965.

This year, a special holiday gift was delivered to health care workers at UAB — the SARS-COV-2 vaccine, which is being administered regularly to front-line health care workers at UAB and in Jefferson County. Read more on UAB News.
