june 21 retro insideThe intersection of 20th Street South and Seventh Avenue looked a bit different in 1971, pictured here. The Hillman Building, visible on the left edge of the frame, still sits along 20th, but gone are the days of Volkswagens parked on sidewalks.

This section of campus will look even more different soon as the Kracke Building and the Pittman Center for Advanced Medical Studies, both situated along Seventh Avenue South between 19th and 20th streets, will be razed this summer to make room for the new Altec Styslinger Genomic Medicine and Data Sciences Building, announced in December 2020 as part of the School of Medicine’s long-range plan to enhance research in genomic medicine and computational biology.
