As you watch the 2020 Tokyo Olympics this year, remember that Legion Field was a host site for soccer matches during the 1996 Olympic Games held in Atlanta, when more than 431,000 people attended the 11 matches held in Birmingham. UAB also hosted a reception honoring local volunteers, and West Campus Field, UAB’s former soccer stadium, was used as a practice site for Olympians. The parade, pictured here, traveled down 20th Street South through the UAB campus.
