Are you 18 or older and interested in quitting smoking?

Researchers in the School of Medicine are recruiting smokers 18 years or older and under criminal justice supervision who smoke at least 5 cigarettes per day to participate in a smoking cessation study. The study is 9 months long and consists of 10 study appointments. You will only come to our office for the first study appointment that lasts 2-3 hours. The remaining 9 appointments will be completed over the phone and by email or text message with study staff and will last between 30-60 minutes each. Eligible participants receive 4 weekly smoking cessation counseling sessions and 12 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy medication (patches and lozenges) to use during the study. You can receive up to $440 for completing all 10 study visits plus a couple of incentive programs. You will be paid using UAB ClinCard, which is like a debit card that is loaded with your study payment after each study appointment is completed.
