The Research of Eating and Activity for Child Health (REACH) Lab is looking for children between the ages of 8-12 and one parent/caregiver to participate in a study. Your participation will help us understand the differences between children with and without overweight/obesity and help to improve future treatment of pediatric overweight/obesity. Children and parents who are eligible to participate will be scheduled for a one-time, three-hour appointment at Children’s of Alabama, where they will complete computer activities, body measurements, paper surveys, and blood labs. You will be paid $300 for your participation and any on-site parking fees will be waived. The Research of Eating and Activity for Child Health, REACH Lab is looking for children with overweight/obesity ages 8-12 and one parent/caregiver to participate in an acceptance-based behavioral treatment for childhood obesity. The treatment will consist of 1.5 hour weekly evening group meetings for 4.5 months. Treatment will incorporate changes in diet and physical activity through educational, interactive sessions on living a healthy lifestyle and behavioral support for reaching goals.
