low vision sizedOnly 38 occupational therapists in the world have a specialty certification in low-vision rehabilitation, and 20 of them are UAB alumni.

“This tells the world that our graduates are the occupational therapy leaders in low-vision rehabilitation,” says Mary Warren, Ph.D., director, UAB Low Vision Rehabilitation Graduate Certificate program. Because of its success, she said, UAB is expected to become a pilot program for fast-tracking SCLV applicants, which would enable our graduates to skip some steps in the credentialing process and qualify earlier.

The online program for working clinicians, located within the UAB Department of Occupational Therapy, has graduated students as far away as Ireland and Singapore. The program admits two cohorts per year. Admission deadline for fall semester is June 15 with the deadline for spring semester set for Oct. 1.
