UAB faculty and staff are the cornerstone of the university’s successes each year, and your feedback earned UAB its first-ever appearance in the Great Colleges to Work For program in 2023. What else got our Blazer spirit going this year? Read on to jog your memory.
UAB has the only Level IV Regional Newborn Intensive Care Unit in Alabama, a Continuing Care Nursery that provides extended step-down care for preterm and term babies with medical conditions, and a Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology that was ranked No. 13 in the country (and highest in the Southeast) by U.S. News in its 2023-2024 Best Hospitals rankings.

From veteran staff members to undergraduates ready to take on the world, UAB is home to innovators all across campus. Meet 12 people whose stories we were able to share this year, and visit uab.edu/reporter and uab.edu/news to read dozens more.

To minimize disruption during UAB’s upcoming commencement activities Dec. 8, UAB Transportation recommends using alternative routes due to construction-related traffic changes around campus.
DAY or NIGHT, when is the best time to take your blood pressure medication?

Help us find out by participating in the PRECISION-BP research study investigating the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure, and have no history of heart or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24 hours, 24-hour inpatient visits at UAB Hospital, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. Participants will be compensated $575 for completing the study visits. Please e-mail Haley at PRECISION-BPSTUDY@uabmc.edu or call us at 205-975-5825 if you are interested.
