Researchers in the School of Medicine are recruiting smokers 18 years or older and under criminal justice supervision who smoke at least 5 cigarettes per day to participate in a smoking cessation study. The study is 9 months long and consists of 10 study appointments. You will only come to our office for the first study appointment that lasts 2-3 hours. The remaining 9 appointments will be completed over the phone and by email or text message with study staff and will last between 30-60 minutes each. Eligible participants receive 4 weekly smoking cessation counseling sessions and 12 weeks of nicotine replacement therapy medication (patches and lozenges) to use during the study. You can receive up to $440 for completing all 10 study visits plus a couple of incentive programs. You will be paid using UAB ClinCard, which is like a debit card that is loaded with your study payment after each study appointment is completed. Researchers at UAB are recruiting vape users to study naturally occurring psychological States. Participants do not have to want to quit to participate. Researchers in the School of Public Health are recruiting college students age 19 and older who smoke cigarettes (at least 5 cigarettes per day). Participants will take part in an educational counseling session. You do NOT have to want to quit smoking to participate. Participation involves coming to our center for one 30-minute orientation session, one 60-minute educational counseling session, and two 15-minute follow-up sessions. You will be asked to fill out some questionnaires, abstain from smoking overnight, and smoke a cigarette that we will provide you. You will be offered an 8-week supply of the nicotine patch that you may use if you wish. You will have the opportunity to be compensated a total of $75 cash for your participation.
