Just in time for the fall semester, UAB Parking and Transportation will launch BlazeRide, a new van service program that will operate 7:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and provide door-to-door accessible transport for students and employees.

“BlazeRide service puts UAB at the leading edge of accessibility transit,” said Chris Clifford, associate vice president for Business and Auxiliary Services.

To register for the service, employees should call AWARE Disability Management Program at 205-934-4458 and students should call Disability Support Services (DSS) at 205-934-4205. Once approved, users can access the service by calling 30 minutes prior to their desired pick-up time; the van service will pick up anywhere within safety escort boundaries and drop off at any facility on campus.

“BlazeRide service puts UAB at the leading edge of accessibility transit.”

“BlazeRide will go beyond our fixed-route transit system and will greatly benefit those who may encounter challenges at times with navigating our vast urban campus,” said Human Resources Management Disability Representative Sherri Moultrie. She said the initiative is a collaboration between Parking and Transportation, DSS and AWARE, all of which are committed to making UAB a more accessible campus.

“This is a much-needed service, and it will satisfy requests we’ve heard from students, faculty and staff,” echoed DSS Director Allison Solomon. “While the Blazer Express has been a great addition in providing access, BlazeRide will take accessible transportation to the next level by providing door-to-door service to further meet the needs of the UAB community.”
