rita jJablonsk sRita JablonskySchool of Nursing associate professors Rita Jablonski, Ph.D., R.N., and Sara Day, Ph.D., R.N., have been selected for induction as fellows into the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) during its annual meeting on Oct. 19, 2013.

The academy comprises more than 2,000 nurse leaders in education, management, practice, policy and research. Fellows of the AAN include hospital and government administrators, college deans and renowned scientific researchers.

“Selection for fellowship in the academy is one of the most prestigious honors in the field of nursing,” said AAN President Joanne Disch, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, alumna of the UAB School of Nursing. “I congratulate all of the new fellows and look forward to honoring their accomplishments and welcoming them into the academy.”

Applicants are reviewed by a panel comprised of elected and appointed fellows. Selection is based, in part, on the extent to which the nominee’s nursing careers influenced health policies, as well as the health and wellbeing of all.

The AAN serves the public and the nursing profession by advancing health policy and practice through the generation, synthesis and dissemination of nursing knowledge. The academy’s fellows are nursing’s most accomplished leaders in education, management, practice and research. They have been recognized for their extraordinary contributions to nursing and health care. There are now 16 faculty members and 48 alumni of the UAB School of Nursing who are AAN fellows.
