Trustees award four emeritus status

obelisk 7The University of Alabama System Board of Trustees awarded emeritus status to four former faculty during its meeting June 13.

Sharon E. Shaw, DrPH, was named associate professor and chair emerita in the Department of Physical Therapy in the UAB School of Health Professions. Shaw earned her master of education and doctoral degrees from UAB and joined the faculty in 1985. She was chair of the Department of Physical Therapy from 1999-2013.

Richard M. Allman, M.D., was named professor emeritus in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative. Allman had served as director of the division and was the first holder of the Emmett G. and Beverly S. Parrish Endowed Professorship. He has been awarded the Donald P. Kent Award and the Joseph T. Freeman Award.

David W. Garber, Ph.D., was named professor emeritus in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care. Garber, who joined the UAB faculty in 1986, has published six books in the field of atherosclerosis and lipoproteins.

Richard V. Sims III, M.D., was named professor emeritus in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care. Sims, who joined UAB in 1994, won teaching excellence awards from the division seven times.
