Julia Gohlke, Ph.D., was named the 2014 recipient of the F. Clarke Fraser New Investigator Award from The Teratology Society, which promotes cutting-edge research on birth defects and other developmental disorders.

Gohlke, an assistant professor in the School of Public Health, has several studies examining birth defects, including an analysis associating pre-term birth and heat waves in Alabama that will aid forecasters in issuing weather alerts.

Gohlke will receive an honorarium and travel expenses to the annual meeting June 28-July 2, where she will deliver a special lecture, “Building a Rewarding Career at the Intersection of Research and Policy.”
