A diverse panel of citizens and community leaders will discuss the importance of civil discourse and how it can be practiced in our daily lives during a free public event 6-8 p.m. Jan. 19 in Heritage Hall Room 102.

Join us in recognizing their efforts by nominating an outstanding woman student, postdoc, faculty member, administrator, staff member and community member.  Nominations are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 3. 

The new training module will be available in the UAB Learning System beginning Jan. 9, 2017, and those required to complete it will be automatically assigned in the LMS system.

New parking permits will be issued Dec. 14-Jan. 6 for UAB employees who park in express lots. Representatives from Parking and Transportation will be onsite in the North Pavilion, West Pavilion atrium and Spain Rehabilitation Center Dec. 14-Jan. 6 to renew permits.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held 10 a.m. for a new building to house the Collat School of Business and Bill L. Harbert Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and become the cornerstone for the city's new innovation and entrepreneurship district.

Provost Linda Lucas will retire in April after nearly 40 years of service to UAB that spanned the university’s adolescent years to its rise among top global universities.

UAB is moving forward to comply with changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act regulations that were to become effective Dec. 1 despite a court injunction to block the Department of Labor mandate. 

Changes in parking lot assignments and transit routes after the first of the year will add convenience and save time for employees and students who park in remote lots.


UAB employees won first place in the annual competition — including highest-scoring competitor — and Alabama school children will benefit.

All UAB employees may purchase Fitbit personal fitness tracking devices at a discounted rate through a partnership between The University of Alabama System and Fitbit.
