You may be eligible to participate in the PRECISION-BP research study about the effects of Sacubitril/Valsartan or Valsartan on your body’s 24-hour rhythm of a hormone in your blood called natriuretic peptides. This hormone and the study medications are related to the heart. Eligible participants must be obese (BMI: 30-45 kg/m2) men and women, have high blood pressure and have no history of heart problems or kidney problems. The study involves wearing a blood pressure monitor for 24-hours, 24-hour inpatient visits, taking medications, and collecting blood and urine samples. Meals will be provided at no cost. You may be eligible to participate in a research study about the effects of Exercise and Metoprolol (a blood pressure pill) on a protein in your blood. This protein is related to heart disease. Eligible participants must be Healthy men and women, African American or Caucasians, and have no history of diabetes, heart problems, or kidney problems. The study involves performing the exercise, taking metoprolol, consuming prepared meals, and collecting blood samples. Participants will be compensated $350 for completing the study visits. If you are between the ages of 18 -75 yrs and have a body mass index between 19 - 45 kg/m2 you may be eligible to participate in a study exploring how much oxalate (a normal product of the body, also found in food) is made by the body and eliminated in urine. Participation involves eating study-provided meals for 5 days, providing urine and blood samples, one imaging visit (DXA) and one day-long visit during which an intravenous infusion of oxalate is given. Study meals are provided free of charge and additional compensation up to $375 is offered. Individuals with obesity, overweight or normal weight, and with and without a history of kidney stones are all welcome to the study. Are you interested in managing your weight? Men and women age 19-75 whose body mass index (BMI) range from 30-50 are needed for SWOP, a two-year study investigating the effects of daily self-weighing. Some participants will be asked to weigh themselves daily for two years using the study-provided scale that will pair with the participant's own smartphone. All participants will be asked to complete brief visits at UAB every 6 months (a total of five visits). Compensation provided. We are looking for adults with type 2 diabetes for an exciting research study to see whether intermittent fasting and/or using light therapy can improve your blood sugar, improve your overall health, and reset your body clock. Participants will either eat early in the day, graze throughout the day, and/or use a special light therapy box or glasses. You may be eligible if you have type 2 diabetes, are 30-80 years old, are not taking insulin, and usually wake up between 5:00 and 9:00 am. The main part of the study lasts 16 weeks and involves two overnight tests in our clinic (which can be done on weekends, if preferred). Participants will receive $2400 for completing the study.

We are looking for adults for an exciting research study to see whether meal timing can improve your blood sugar and your overall health. Participants will be randomly selected to either graze throughout the day, skip breakfast, or skip dinner for 8 weeks. You may be eligible if you are 30-70 years old, are overweight, are not taking diabetes medication, and wake up between 5:00 and 8:00 am regularly. Adults with prediabetes, blood sugar issues, or a family history of diabetes are encouraged to apply. This study involves two overnight tests in our clinic plus eating only food that we provide you. The UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is conducting a nutrition study looking at the effects of diet in Type 2 diabetes. You may qualify if you are ages 35-65, are African American or European American, have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes within the past 5 years, and are willing to travel to UAB for testing visits. Qualified participants will receive weekly groceries, personal health information, group support sessions with a Registered Dietitian, and monetary compensation for your time. Researchers at UAB are conducting an exciting study in adolescents to investigate how diet quality influences body composition, quality of life, and other outcomes related to fatty liver disease. Overweight/obese children ages 10-17 who have elevated liver enzymes may be eligible to participate. Participation involves attending study visits, completing several assessments, and taking part in a nutrition program for 2 months. We are currently seeking individuals diagnosed with spinal cord injury (SCI) for a research study evaluating diet. The purpose of this study is to determine if a low carb or low fat diet is better for helping adults with SCI: 1) stick to their diet, 2) improve their body composition, and 3) lower their cardiometabolic risk factors (such as diabetes, heart disease, or stroke).
