If so, you could be eligible to participate in a new research study that aims to better understand the role of the immune system in fibromyalgia. The Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Lab at UAB is looking for women with Fibromyalgia, and women who are healthy and without pain. Participants will come to UAB for a 2-hour screening visit and a 9-hour (all-day) study session. During the study session, we will induce a temporary immune response and assess its effect on fibromyalgia symptoms, including pain and markers of immune activity. You will provide blood samples and undergo brain imaging before and after the immune activation procedure. You will be paid $650 for completing both visits. Participants must be: currently suffering from moderate to severe Fibromyalgia, or be a healthy female and ages 18-55, not pregnant or planning to become pregnant, without significant other medical conditions such as heart disease, not using any opioid medication, for example, Norco, Tramadol, Percocet. The Neuroinflammation, Pain, and Fatigue Lab is looking for women with fibromyalgia ages 18-65 for a brain imaging study. The study includes a phone interview two visits to UAB hospital, one screening visit including blood draws, and one imaging visit, during which we will acquire Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) of your brain for one hour. PET imaging involves exposure to a small amount of radiation. There will also be questionnaires. You will be paid $400 for completing the study. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether patients with fibromyalgia have increased brain inflammation compared to healthy people. The Neuroinflammation, Pain, and Fatigue Lab at UAB is currently recruiting men between the ages of 39-65 with Fibromyalgia and/or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for a research study. This study combines the use of multiple questionnaires and blood draws to learn more about chronic pain and fatigue. Participation includes a screening visit and twice-weekly blood draw visits over a 12-13 week period. Participants earn up to $750 for the completion of this study. The UAB Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Lab is looking for individuals to take part in a research study. We will induce a temporary immune response and test how this affects fibromyalgia symptoms and markers of immune activity. The Neuroinflammation, Pain and Fatigue Lab is currently looking for Veterans of the Persian Gulf War to participate in our research studies.  If you are male, between the ages of 39-65, and were present in the Persian Gulf between 1990-August 1991, you may be eligible to participate in one of our new research studies.  Veterans with Gulf War Illness, healthy Gulf War Veterans, and individuals with Fibromyalgia/ Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are all needed.
