The Translational Research for Injury Prevention (TRIP) Lab is looking for teens aged 14-17 and one parent/guardian to participate in a study to help UAB researchers understand more about self-driving vehicles. Participation for eligible teens and parents will include a single appointment located on the UAB campus with several different activities including questionnaires, computer tasks, and driving in a driving simulator. Participants will also be asked to complete a series of at-home pre-appointment questionnaires. The in-person lab session associated with the study is expected to last no longer than 2 hours. Parents and teens will each be compensated $50 each for participation. COVID screenings and precautions will be performed. The Child and Adolescent Health Lab at UAB is conducting a research study on parent-teen communication. Participants will: complete surveys, play a game, and discuss videos. Compensated will be provided. You and your teen may be eligible to participate if your child is between the ages of 13 and 15. Looking for healthy participants ages 15-18 to participate in a study looking at depression, obesity, and early life stress. Must be in good general health with no history of mental illness, physical conditions such as autoimmune, cardiovascular or endocrine disease, and not be taking any medications that affect weight. Is your child experiencing any of the following symptoms: sadness or hopelessness, persistent irritability or anger, feelings of guilt, changes in appetite or weight, loss of interest in activities, difficulty concentrating, too little or too much sleep, thoughts of death or suicide, reckless behavior or increased boredom. Overweight/obese adolescents ages 15-17 with an iPhone or Android cell phone who sleep less than an average of 8 hours per night and their parent wanted for a study of the effects of sleep on adolescents’ overall health. Requires 8 visits to UAB laboratory and 3 blood draws over a 4 month period.
