If the answer is yes, we invite you to take part in a voluntary study ‘Feasibility, Acceptability, and Validity of Energy Intake Measurement in Multiple Sclerosis. What will you do? You will be asked to complete 2 assessment visits and go through a measure of your energy expenditure, body composition, cognition and questionnaires about your diet and physical activity. Why is this research important? Research examining the influence of diet on multiple sclerosis (MS) disease course and symptoms is a top priority among persons with MS and those who are working to end MS disease. There are currently no valid measures of energy intake in persons with MS. We are recruiting adults without MS in order to compare the accuracy of measurements of energy intake that will be used in future studies to measure relationships between diet and symptoms in MS. What’s in it for me? You will be helping others by contributing to ongoing MS research and you will receive $75 for completing each assessment. Researchers at the UAB are conducting a study to investigate how daily consumption of types of foods influences body weight and composition and other outcomes related to the risk of certain diseases. If you are age 18-50 you may be eligible to participate. Participation involves attending 5 study visits, consuming a food item daily for 30 days and acquiring measures related to body weight, body composition and glucose metabolism. UAB Department of Nutrition Sciences is conducting a nutrition study looking at the effects of diet in adults with type 2 diabetes, high blood sugar, for less than 5 years. You may qualify if you are between the ages of 35-65, are African American or European American, are not using insulin, and are willing to travel to UAB for testing visits. Qualified participants will receive weekly groceries, personal health information, group support sessions with a Registered Dietitian, and monetary compensation for your time. We are currently seeking individuals diagnosed with spinal cord injury (SCI) for a research study evaluating diet. The purpose of this study is to determine if a low carb or low fat diet is better for helping adults with SCI: 1) stick to their diet, 2) improve their body composition, and 3) lower their cardiometabolic risk factors (such as diabetes, heart disease, or stroke).
