All events are hosted in The Edge of Chaos, located in Lister Hill Library.

Mentoring Academy for Trainees

Career-planning and decision-making is challenging for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows and finding career satisfaction is worth the effort during your training. Here, you can discuss the career landscape, develop a plan and gain tools to navigate difficult conversations related to your career.

Registration is required. The event is 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and refreshments and lunch are provided.

Mentoring Academy for Faculty

The responsibility of a mentor is to ensure trainees are prepared for success. Here, faculty will delve into the career landscape data and outcomes, explore tools for career planning and gain a better understanding of how to support career goals.

Registration is required. The event is 10 a.m.-1 p.m., and refreshments and lunch are provided.

Developing a Robust Workforce

Philip Clifford, Ph.D., professor in kinesiology and nutrition, The University of Illinois at Chicago, and co-author of the career website, myidp.sciencecareers.org, will discuss ways to prepare trainees for success and how trainees should approach career planning during the keynote address for the luncheon.

Theater Delta: Career Planning within the Academy

This interactive theatre performance explores mentoring and decision-making in career paths in academic research. Theater Delta uses scripted and improvisational audience participation to foster dialogue.

The event is noon-1:30 p.m., and lunch is provided.

Walk-in career advising

Stop by and chat with someone who can help with the next steps in your career or with application materials 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
