rep disability summit pdf cover 413x550pxThis year marks two milestones for disability employment in the United States — the 75th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which is celebrated in October, and the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

To celebrate, the AWARE program, which provides disability-management services to UAB employees in partnership with the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services (ADRS), is sharing a special virtual event with the UAB community. The 2020 Disability Employment Summit: Diversity through Inclusion, sponsored by ADRS, will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 28.

Speakers include ADRS commissioner Jane Elizabeth Burdeshaw, Linda Sales-Long, compliance officer at the Tennessee Valley Authority, Mark Schultz, commissioner of the Rehabilitation Service Administration, Graham Sisson, deputy director of the Governor’s Office on Disability, and Charles Wilkinson, board chair of Disability: In Alabama, which maintains a network of businesses committed to disability issues.

Awards from the Alabama Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities will be presented to employers, employees, students and advocates at the summit.

UAB employees can register for the summit here and see the full program here.
