Josh

B.S. Language and International Health, Clemson University 

Josh graduated Summa Cum Laude from Clemson University in 2016 with a B.S. in Language and International Health and Minors in Mandarin Chinese and Business Administration. While at Clemson, Josh held various leadership positions through organizations including Blue Key Honor Society, Student Alumni Council, Student Government, and the Orientation Ambassador program. Josh strives to make a difference in the lives of others. This coupled with his personal healthcare experiences, created his desire to work in healthcare. This pushed Josh to pursue and complete internships with the VHA, Oconee Memorial Hospital, and a Nonprofit in China. More specifically, Josh has an interest in combining his undergraduate major with the MSHA and is excited to explore the world of international healthcare management.

Josh is currently completing a residency at Kaiser Permanente - Los Angeles, CA.

Virginia

B.S. Biological Sciences, Clemson University

Virginia grew up in Chapin, South Carolina. She graduated from Clemson University in 2016 with a degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Business Administration. While attending Clemson, she was involved with her sorority, Kappa Delta, and the Healthy Campus department. She also spent time doing research in a population genetics laboratory. Virginia worked for the Clemson Regional Entrepreneurial Development Center. It was this opportunity that shifted her interests from the clinical side of healthcare to the administrative side. She is now working towards a dual degree in Health Administration and a Master in Business Administration. Virginia enjoys spending time on the lake, traveling and cheering on the Clemson Tigers!

Virginia is currently completing a residency at Surgical Care Affiliates - Charleston, SC.

Michael

B.S. Public Health, Brigham Young University

Michael was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with an emphasis in Health Promotion and minored in Business Management. He took two years off from his studies at BYU to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the panhandle of Florida and lower Alabama. He was able to spend a semester at BYU studying in Jerusalem. Also, during his undergraduate studies he spent several years interning for an HCA hospital in Orem, Utah working on a variety of administrative projects and as a housekeeper. Michael enjoys sports, service, traveling, and spending time with his wife and family.

Michael is currently completing a residency at East Alabama Medical Center - Opelika, AL.

Ashley 

B.S. Health Care Administration, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Ashley was born and raised in Green Bay Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee and graduated in May 2015. Ashley was involved in UWMs ACHE affiliated club - Future Healthcare Executives, where she took on many volunteer roles. She was also a part of the Upsilon Phi Delta Honors Society. Upon graduation she started working as a Project Specialist at the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin, where she was able to lead and implement various projects throughout the hospital. Her past work experiences also include her employments as a Certified Nursing Assistant of over five years. Because of her previous clinical and project based background, she knew she had a passion for process improvement, which led her to UABs MSHA program. Ashley enjoys hiking, traveling, spending time with loved ones.

Ashley is currently completing a residency at Mercyhealth System - Jameville, WI.

Jeremy

B.S. Healthcare Administration, Brigham Young University-Idaho

Jeremy was raised in American Fork, Utah and went to Brigham Young University-Idaho. He graduated in 2015 with a B.S. in Healthcare Administration. While attending BYU-I he had the opportunity to work in a multi-specialty practice serving in positions ranging from Patient Flow Coordinator, Project Manager and Student Practice Manager. He also served in various capacities within the Healthcare Administration Society including the Acute Care Manager and President of the society during his senior year. Shortly after graduation he accepted a position as a Patient Financial Advocate with Intermountain Healthcare’s Revenue Cycle Division. While in this position, he worked closely with the uninsured and indigent patient base to secure funding to pay for their medical bills. He also worked alongside a consulting firm to track reimbursement trends and to increase Medicaid/TPL enrollment among these patients. Jeremy enjoys running, skiing, and spending time with his wife and son. 

Jeremy is currently completing a residency at North Mississippi Health Services - Tupelo, MS.

Kaitie

B.S. Management, The University of Alabama

Kaitie was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from the University of Alabama with a bachelor of science in healthcare management. During her undergraduate studies, Kaitie was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, serving on the executive board as both the Vice President of Risk Management and Vice President of Ritual and Fraternal Relations. Kaitie also served as the Vice President of the Health Care Management Society. She spent time volunteering for the community of Tuscaloosa by serving on the Alabama Diabetes Education Team, teaching elementary school children through Junior Achievement Tuscaloosa, and becoming a CMS certified application counselor for BamaCovered. Kaitie is excited to continue pursuing her passion for healthcare through obtaining her MSHA and MBA here at UAB. She currently serves as the Vice President of Sponsorship for Class 52 and has spent the past year working as the Student associate to the Chief of the Medical Staff at UAB Medicine. She enjoys running, cooking, and hiking in her spare time.

Katie is currently completing a residency at Novant Health - Charlotte, NC.

Kody

B.S. Public Health, Brigham Young University

Kody was raised in Lyman, Wyoming and Springville, Utah. He graduated in 2015 from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and a minor in Business Management. During high school, he became a Certified Nurse Assistant and worked for seven years in both assisted living and hospital settings. While studying at BYU, he was an officer in the Healthcare Management Association and completed three administrative internships with HCA and Intermountain Healthcare. Outside of his studies, he loves to volunteer; he served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and enjoys being the Assistant Scoutmaster in his local Boy Scouts of America troop. Kody also enjoys golfing, traveling, and spending time with his wife and little boy.

Kody is currently completing a residency at National Sinus Institute - San Antonio, TX.

Carson

B.S. Management, The University of Alabama

Carson was born and raised in Dothan, AL. He graduated from The University of Alabama in 2016 with a Bachelor of Science in Management, specializing in Healthcare Management. During his time at UA, he served as the Vice-President of his fraternity for two years, as well as one year as the Interfraternity Council Vice-President of Recruitment. Sophomore year of college, Carson served as a Community Service Center Director while helping to create and run a campus-wide service event. Though he grew up around the healthcare industry, Carson didn’t have his first healthcare related job until the summer after his senior year of high-school. For 2 summers, Carson served as a surgical assistant to Dr. Robin Ash, a Dermatologist in Dothan, AL, which reaffirmed his desire to work in healthcare. Carson is working towards a dual degree in Health Administration and Health Informatics. Carson enjoys spending time with his family and friends, playing and watching sports, and all outdoor activities.

Carson is currently completing a residency at Emory Healthcare - Atlanta, GA.

Andrew

B.S. Health Administration, University of North Florida

Andrew was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida.  He attended the University of North Florida where he majored in health administration and minored in business.  During his time in undergrad, Andrew served as treasurer of the Best Buddies program and president of the National Society of Leadership and Success.  Over the summers, he enjoyed coaching a swim team called the Wahoos.  Andrew found his passion for leadership, helping others, and ultimately health administration through several internships in his college career. Experiences at Healogics, St. Vincent’s, and Mayo Clinic all strongly influenced his desire to help health systems constantly improve.  In his spare time, Andrew likes to hike, surf, play ukulele, and spend time with his friends and family.

Andrew is currently completing a residency at Emory Healthcare - Atlanta, GA.

Tammy

B.S. Psychology, Boston College

Tammy was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Boston College in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a concentration in Neuroscience. Tammy has professional experience in prior authorization management under small physician practice, healthcare consulting, and managed care contracting related to the AAMC. In the future, she sees herself pursuing a career in a large hospital under process improvement and operations, consulting, or hospital managed care and insurance contracting. Tammy is passionate about life and learning—she enjoys challenges, physical activity, and loves time with friends and family.

Tammy is currently completing a residency at WellStar Health System - Marrieta, GA.

Andrew

B.S. Healthcare Management, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Andrew was born in Poughkeepsie, New York and raised in Hueytown, Alabama. During his undergraduate education at UAB, Andrew identified his love for healthcare through the translational research space in academic medical centers. His background in data analytics and operational support has awarded him marked experiences consulting in heavily regulated service industries such as, pharma, cellular therapy, cancer and related contract management organizations across the United States. Andrew currently serves as the VP for External relations for Class 52 and is a regular attendee at Redeemer Community Church. In his spare time, Andrew enjoys biking, hiking and brewing home beer.

Andrew is currently completing a residency at Memorial Hermann Health System - Houston, TX.

Anna

B.A. Biology, Huntingdon College

Anna was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated magna cum laude from Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Business Administration. Huntingdon College’s motto is “Enter to grow in wisdom. Go forth to apply wisdom in service.” As an intern at St. Martin’s in the Pines, a retirement community, she realized that she could fulfill this motto as a leader in healthcare. During her college experience, she was very involved on campus. She served as an Orientation Leader, Student Recruiter, College Ambassador, and Vice President of Administration for her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi. Anna is excited about the opportunities and life-long learning that the healthcare field will provide.

Anna is currently completing a residency at North Mississippi Health Services - Tupelo, MS.

Danny

B.S. Health Sciences, St. Louis University

Danny was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, but was raised in Birmingham, Alabama. In May 2015, he graduated from St. Louis University (SLU) with a bachelor’s in health sciences. While attending SLU, Danny help established a Lions Club International on campus where he worked to provide health education to local middle schools. After completing his undergraduate, Danny completed his Masters in Public Health from UAB, with a concertation in healthcare organization and policy. During his enrollment, we worked on an elective joint surgery class at UAB hospital, and served in the School of Public Health’s Diversity Committee. Danny is currently working on his MSHA, where he also serves as the VP of Interprofessional Relations. He enjoys world travel, fitness, reading, and socializing with friends.

Danny is currently completing a residency at Rush University Medical Center - Chicago, IL.

Weston

B.S., B.A. Marketing and Spanish, Clemson University

Weston was born in Ohio and raised in South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University with dual degrees in Marketing and Spanish. During his undergraduate studies, he studied in Alicante, Spain and served as president of Clemson Men’s Club Soccer. After graduation, he interned with Greenville Health System before working with Proactive MD, an organization specializing in workplace healthcare services and population health. He looks forward to serving in the meaningful and impactful field of healthcare administration. Outside of the classroom, Weston enjoys exploring Birmingham with his wife, running, hiking with his dogs, and spending time with friends. He currently serves as the President for Class 52.

Weston is currently completing a residency at Mayo Clinic - Jacksonville, FL.

Gil

B.S. Health Services Administration, Auburn University

Gil was born in Iowa then moved to Dothan, Alabama until he moved to Panama City Beach, Florida to complete middle and high school. He attended Auburn University where he would finish with a degree in Health Services Administration and a minor in Business. During his time at Auburn University, he was actively involved in his fraternity Beta Theta Pi and various campus events. Before graduation, he completed an internship at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, which solidified his decision to pursue healthcare after Auburn. Some of his interest range from fishing in the Gulf of Mexico, bow hunting in Alabama, and collecting wagers on the golf course.

Gil is currently completing a residency at East Alabama Medical Center - Opelika, AL.

Blake

B.A. Liberal Arts, Northwestern State University

Blake was born and raised in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts. Blake earned various honors and awards in her undergraduate studies including summa cum laude and membership into Phi Kappa Phi, Blue Key, and Alpha Epsilon Delta Honor Societies. She also served in multiple leadership roles, including property manager and philanthropy chair for her sorority. Blake also had the opportunity to work in her university’s counseling center and on a summer research project at LSU Health Science Center in New Orleans. She enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends and family.

Blake is currently completing a residency at Erlanger Health System - Chattanooga, TN.

Nicole

B.S. Health Science, University of Florida

Nicole was born and raised in Miami, Florida. She attended the University of Florida and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Health Science degree with an emphasis in Public Health. While at the University of Florida, Nicole received a full Bright Futures Scholarship, worked for the Student Employment Office and was a Resident Assistant for the Department of Housing. She also served as a Team Delegate for Dance Marathon at UF benefiting UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital, the local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. Her passion for healthcare and leadership, as well as her internship experiences led her to pursue a career in health administration. Nicole has spent time working in the Department of Leadership Development at UAB Medicine and is involved in various organizations, such as the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is looking forward to leading others in the constantly changing environment of healthcare. Nicole enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling to new places, and cheering on the Florida Gators.

Nicole is currently completing a residency at Medical University of South Carolina - Charleston, SC.

Meaghan

B.S. Psychology, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Meaghan grew up in Franklin, TN and went to The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She graduated in 2016 with a B.S. in Psychology with a concentration in healthcare. During her time at UTC, Meaghan was involved in the Chi Omega sorority serving as campus activities chair. Meaghan was also a member of the Golden Key Honors Society. She spent time volunteering with Girls Inc. serving as a mentor to elementary school girls and helping put on events to raise money for Make-A-Wish. Meaghan found her passion for healthcare during and administrative internship at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, and is excited to continue her passion here at UAB through obtaining her MSHA and MBA. In her free time, Meaghan enjoys playing with her dog Samson, spending time outside, and being by the water.

Colby

J.D. University of Florida Levin College of Law

Colby was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and attended Wake Forest University for undergraduate studies. He graduated in 2013 with a B.A. in both English and History. Thereafter, he attended law school at the University of Florida Levin College of Law. He graduated from the University of Florida in 2016. Colby has spent several summers at Burr Forman LLP as a summer associate focusing on healthcare law and other areas of the law. Colby has also spent time at UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida in the Anesthesiology department focusing on perioperative coordinated care under the lead administrator. Colby enjoys listening to music, staying active, and leisure reading.

Colby is currently completing a residency at Novant Health - Winston-Salem, NC.

Kevin

B.S. Healthcare Management, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Kevin was raised in a suburb of Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in May of 2016 with a degree in Healthcare Management and a minor in Accounting. Kevin’s healthcare interests stem from many of his family members being involved in the different aspects of healthcare. He was a participant in the UAB School of Health Professions Honors College and completed an internship at Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Kevin placed third in the Richard B. Stull Essay Competition in his last year of undergraduate studies. He serves currently as the President of the MSHA Golf Classic. Kevin was a member of the UAB Fishing Team during his undergraduate years. He enjoys all things that keep him outdoors such as fishing, hunting, hiking, and sports.

Kevin is currently completing a residency at St. Bernards Healthcare - Jonesboro, AK.

Lucas

B.S. Business Administration, Murray State University

Lucas is from Mahomet, Illinois, a village west of Champaign. He completed his undergraduate studies at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky, where he was involved in numerous leadership and extracurricular activities. Lucas served as a mentor and tutor to college students with physical and intellectual disabilities. He was president of two student organizations on campus; the Society for Human Resource Management and the MSU Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa. Further, Lucas was a 4-year member of the Murray State Men's Cross Country team. Since then, Lucas has enjoyed numerous races including the Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh, North Carolina and the Rocket City Marathon in Huntsville, Alabama. His interest in healthcare began with a volunteer experience at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. His upbringing in a rural setting drives his passion for rural healthcare. Lucas is inspired to use his education and experiences to improve the health of individuals in the community.

Lucas is currently completing a residency at Quorum Health (Gateway Regional Medical Center) - Granite City, IL.

Carson

B.S. Public Health, Brigham Young University

Carson is from Meridian, Idaho, and graduated from Brigham Young University in Utah with a degree in Public Health and a minor in Business Management. During his undergraduate years, he interned with six varied organizations; including Intermountain Healthcare, a healthcare consulting agency, and an international business start-up. Carson’s international experience includes a teaching position in Mexico City, a study abroad at Oxford University, and managing a volunteer organization in Chennai, India. He is passionate about finding innovative solutions to healthcare’s challenges, entrepreneurship, and resolving socioeconomic disparities. Carson and his wife Faith love living in Birmingham and serving in the community together.

Carson is currently completing a residency at Surgical Care Affiliates - Phoenix, AZ.

Patrick

B.S. Business Administration, The Citadel Military College

Patrick was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He attended The Citadel Military College in Charleston, South Carolina where he graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with a focus in Accounting. While attending The Citadel, Patrick served on the Honor Court as a Cadet 2nd Lieutenant and led The Citadel Club Golf Team as Club President his senior year. After graduation, Patrick worked in the Advisory Services Practice of Ernst & Young LLP in their Atlanta, Georgia office for two years before formally deciding to pursue a career in healthcare. He is working towards a dual degree in Health Administration and Business Administration. In his spare time, Patrick enjoys playing golf and traveling with friends.

Patrick is currently completing a residency at Dixon Hughts Goodman (DHG) - Atlanta, GA.

Josh

B.S. Healthcare Management, University of Alabama at Birmingham

Joshua grew up in McCalla, Alabama and completed his undergraduate degree in Healthcare Management from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. During his tenure at UAB, he was the Vice President of the Healthcare Management Student Association where he organized class socials and volunteer opportunities along with other responsibilities. Since attending UAB’s MSHA program, he has been working in administration office at The Kirklin Clinic. In his spare time Joshua enjoys hanging out with friends, trying new food, and Alabama football.

Josh is currently completing a residency at Infirmary Health System - Mobile, AL.

Bethany

B.S. Business Administration, Trinity University 

Bethany grew up in a military family living all over the country before her family settled in Austin, Texas where she graduated high school. She attended Trinity University in San Antonio receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Communications Management. While attending Trinity, Bethany served on the executive board of her sorority as Service Chair, was a member of the academic fraternity Phi Sigma Pi and spent a semester abroad studying at the University of Sydney. Prior to attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham to pursue her master’s, Bethany worked for a technology start-up company in Austin. Her interest in the healthcare field began while working as a hospital volunteer as an undergrad. Bethany has worked in a variety of healthcare settings and her passion for healthcare continues to grow. During her free time, Bethany enjoys traveling, painting, and outdoor activities with family and friends.

Bethany is currently completing a residency at Baylor Scott & White Health - Temple, TX.

Jay

B.S. Health Administration, Auburn University 

Jay was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama. He attended Auburn University and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Heath Administration and a minor in Business. While at Auburn, he participated in campus life by holding a staff position with Auburn University Dance Marathon, serving as president of his social fraternity, and representing Southern Tide as a brand ambassador. He completed a summer internship at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Department of Neurology/Neurosurgery. Upon graduation, he worked for Carlisle Medical, a worker’s compensation pharmacy benefits provider, in Mobile, Alabama. Currently, he is working towards a dual MSHA/MBA degree and has maintained employment with Carlisle Medical. Jay enjoys books, podcasts, golf, and cooking during his time outside of the classroom.

Jay is currently completing a residency at Johns Hopkins Medicine - Baltimore, MD.

Ryan

B.S. Business Administration, The University of Alabama

Ryan is originally from Fairhope, Alabama. He graduated from the University of Alabama in May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and Business Administration which focused on Healthcare Management. He was involved in various organizations, such as the Healthcare Management Society and the Alabama Management Society. As an undergraduate student, Ryan completed internships in various healthcare organizations which included a not for profit, veteran’s affairs, and an academic medical center where he working the areas of quality management, the revenue cycle, and administration. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and completed his Master of Business Administration before beginning the Master of Science in Health Administration program.  Ryan currently serves as the VP of Logistics for the MSHA Golf Classic, a philanthropic event held annually by each class. Outside of class and work, Ryan enjoys a wide variety of outdoor activities such as playing golf and fishing.

Ryan is currently completing a residency at Infirmary Health System - Mobile, AL.

Luona

B.A. East Asian Languages and Civilizations, University of Pennsylvania

Luona was born in China but grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated in 2015 from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in East Asian Languages and Civilizations with concentration in Chinese and a minor in Economics. During her time at Penn, Luona was heavily involved in her church and fencing. She was captain of Penn’s Division I Varsity Fencing team, as well as a 3-time All-American, a 2-time All-Ivy, and an Academic All-Ivy. Her passion for a career in healthcare stems from understanding that a good state of health is prerequisite to achieving one’s goals and dreams. After graduation, she worked at a global pharmaceutical consulting firm before deciding to pursue a career in health administration. Luona is currently pursuing a dual degree in Health Administration and Health Informatics. Outside of class, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing with her dog, traveling, watching Netflix, and singing karaoke.
