Doctorre McDade, a member of the first cohort in the School of Health Professions’ new Master of Science in Healthcare Simulation program, wins the Student Division of the UAB Graduate School’s Say it In 6 competition. The photo – to the right – included the six words: “I’m too blessed to be stressed.”

“I can’t even begin to list all the ways I am blessed, but I am forever grateful for my health, my family and the almighty,” said McDade. “The photo idea was a group effort with my colleagues in the SHP Learning Resource Center. We are always discussing and learning from the challenges we all face daily in school and life, but also how we are all blessed by having this life and the many wonderful people who are a part of it! Thank you for this opportunity to tell my story and represent all UAB Graduates in such a neat way!”

McDade and the other winners were honored at a reception at the Abroms-Engel Institute for Visual Arts (AEIVA) on February 28 where he received a winner’s check for $1,000. You can see McDade’s winning entry, along with the rest, at the Hill Student Center in a permanent Say It In 6 section.

This is the third annual Say It In 6 competition. The UAB Graduate School asks participants to submit an image – can be photos, drawings, or paintings – and six words depicting any story they want to tell.

The Graduate School received more than 200 entries from students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty, and staff. A preliminary judging panel comprised of local artists, community and business leaders and UAB faculty picked a finalist and an honorable mention for each category. The first and second place winners were chosen by a final judging panel. To see the winners from every division, click here.
