The Department of Physical Therapy is expanding fundraising opportunities to support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by creating the UAB Physical Therapy Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Scholarship Fund. In our profession, only 2% of PTs are Black and only 4% of PTs are Latinx - compared to 13% and 18% respectively nationwide.
More Diversity
Our focus in improving access is working. In 2017, 9% of the graduating Doctor of Physical Therapy class came from underrepresented areas. Only four years later, these students represent 21% of our DPT class with a near 500% growth among Black students.
Our results will continue to grow with your help. By investing in this fund, you are helping to support underrepresented students in the DPT program, as well as our goal of promoting a diverse student body that ultimately reflects the diversity of the society the physical therapy profession serves. Your gift will help provide scholarships which will be applied to a student’s tuition and fees, thus reducing the financial burden associated with pursuing a graduate degree.
