Survey Research Unit (SRU)

The mission of the UAB SURVEY RESEARCH UNIT (SRU) is to provide scientifically valid survey results for our clients to reach their research goals and objectives.

We aim to be the UAB community’s first choice for survey research services. Our data has been published in hundreds of peer-reviewed journals and used in presentations and posters for scientific conferences.

The SRU conducts tens of thousands of surveys annually for researchers at UAB, local and state health departments, and other state and national agencies or organizations.

As a UAB service center, we offer researchers a range of services at competitive prices. We specialize in computer assisted telephone interviewing (CATI) surveys and are capable of quickly collecting data from large numbers of individuals. Our high data-collection throughput is made possible by a large staff (40+) of interviewers who undergo regular training, including IRB, HIPAA, and Good Clinical Practice certifications.

Drawing from our CATI survey experiences and capabilities, we’ve helped investigators quickly screen thousands of individuals to determine preliminary eligibility for clinical trials.

Our services also include mailed paper surveys, web surveys, push-to-web surveys, and mixed-mode surveys (combining both phone, mail, and web surveys to maximize response rates). As part of our data collective services, we can assist clients with the design of self-administered questionnaires.

A cost estimate for each of these services is available upon request at no charge.
