This award recognizes early career scholars (10 years or less from receiving their doctorate) for outstanding contributions to their field. These researchers have accomplished significant achievements. Dr. Bertha Hidalgo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is a New Connections grantee (cohort 8).

Dr. Hidalgo is only starting her fourth year on faculty, however, has already accomplished a great deal in her field and beyond. Recently, Dr. Hidalgo was appointed to two national boards: The Board of External Experts at NHLBI, an honor usually bestowed upon only to senior investigators; and the Board of the College of Epidemiology, an honor usually afforded to individuals at the Associate Professor level and beyond. Dr. Hidalgo, a tenure-track faculty member, has attained funding from 7 entities. She has also published 49 peer-reviewed manuscripts and a book chapter.

We would like to congratulate Dr. Bertha Hidalgo for her outstanding accomplishments in this field.
