School of Public Health News October 30, 2018

Dr. Meredith Lamar Kilgore passed away on October 17 with his wife, Dr. Julie Locher, and family by his side. Meredith received his MSPH from the School of Public Health in 2005 after 25 years of practicing nursing in hospital settings. Upon completing his PhD in California, he was recruited back to the UAB School of Public Health as a faculty member in the department of Health Care Organization and Policy, where he taught how medical decision-making relates to quality of life and treatment options. He served as Chair of the department from 2012-2018.

Meredith will be remembered and missed for his success in building collaborative research across schools, programs, and disciplines. His students will forever be changed because of his commitment to teaching and mentoring. Those who considered him both friend and colleague will miss his kind spirit.

A celebration of Meredith's life will be held on Thursday, November 8 at 2pm at East Lake United Methodist Church (7753 1st Ave S, Birmingham, AL 35206) with the Reverend Sally Allocca officiating. A reception will follow.

The family requests that donations honoring Meredith's life be made to P.E.E.R., Inc., the non-profit connected to the church that runs the East Lake Farmers Market and community health initiatives at (http://www.eastlakemarket.org/how-to-help/donations/).

"I know that you join me in extending our thoughts and condolences to his entire family" said Dean Paul C. Erwin.
