“I can’t wait to engage with people on campus about the center and what more we can do to improve human health through strong health policies,” Judd said. “We have such strong and committed faculty, staff and students across campus striving to make a difference. I hope to leverage the center to forge new collaborations and to build upon the work being done at the outstanding centers and institutes across campus.”

The Lister Hill Center, an endowed center within the School of Public Health, was named after U.S. Sen. Lister Hill, who was instrumental in increasing federal funding for medical research in the United States. The center focuses on health policy as it relates to human health and sponsors seminars, workshops and pilot grants to help scholars develop research that informs or supports health policies.

In addition to recruiting more scholars to come to UAB to discuss their work in health policy, an international seminar series to continue fostering the exchange of ideas is among her top priorities for 2019.

Judd also plans to hire new staff and re-examine Lister Hill Center’s mission and vision as they relate to UAB’s strategic plan for growth over the next five years. Paul Muntner, PhD, professor in the Department of Epidemiology and School of Public Health associate dean of Research, was the previous director of the center.
