Description:

Dr. Scott Irvine an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Director of the Office Global Health and the International Emergency Medicine Fellowship at the University of Alabama – Birmingham.  Dr. Irvine is a graduate of the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Transition Year at Baptist Health System, Inc, Birmingham, AL, and his Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Alabama – Birmingham.  His career in global health began during a medical mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya during his first year of medical school.  Over the last twelve years he has worked tirelessly to deliver health care in resource limited settings.  Currently, he has projects in Western Kenya developing Emergency Care and West Africa training local providers in a district hospital.  Dr. Irvine also spends time teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows.  When not working clinically or traveling, he enjoys biking, competing in triathlons and spending time with his wife and four young kids.

The Sparkman Center for Global Health and the Department of Epidemiology will host a lunch seminar on January 12th from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM in RPHB 407. The guest speaker for this event will be Pema Lhaki, Executive Director of NFCC Nepal. Ms. Lhaki will present: "The paradox in perspective on menstrual isolation in Nepal." Food will be provided.

The Department of Epidemiology will host a lunch seminar on Monday, January 22nd from 12:00 PM-1:00 PM in RPHB 407. Dr. Craig Wilson, Director of the Sparkman Center for Global Health will be the guest speaker for this event. Dr. Wilson will present: "Impacting the HIV Continuum of Care for Domestic Youth Through Community Coalition-Driven Structural Change Objectives." Pizza will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.
