Dr. Sten H. Vermund, a former director of the UAB Sparkman Center for Global Health from 1999-2006, has been named by President Peter Salobey and School of Medicine Dean Dr. Robert J. Alpern as the next dean of the Yale School of Public Health. Dr. Vermund's term will start on February 1, 2017. Dr. Vermund is currently a professor of pediatrics, medicine, health policy, and obstetrics and gynecology at Vanderbilt University. His recent work includes HIV prevention in China in men who have had sex with men, maternal-fetal HIV transmission in Nigeria, HIV prevention in intravenous drug users in Pakistan, and cervical cancer prevention at Tanzanian HIV clinics.
