The Sparkman Fellows Program is intended for highly motivated and engaged students seeking to enhance their understanding of global issues in a stimulating learning environment. Fellows will have the opportunity to engage with UAB faculty in a collaborative environment outside of the classroom as well as be mentored by faculty in the Sparkman Scholars program. Eligibility

All graduate and professional students at UAB may apply to become a Sparkman Fellow. Undergraduates with junior or senior standing may also apply to become a Sparkman Fellow.

Commitments

-Attend Scholars & Fellows meeting/seminar 4 times a year

-Participate in 1 service activity each semester

How to Apply

Fill out the following application between now and the end of the day (midnight) Wednesday, March 11th.

We will select Fellows by the end of March so that we can meet as a group in April, and the new class of Fellows can fill out the Scholar Match Form to be matched with a Scholar before summer. Perspective or accepted Sparkman Fellows should not reach out to a professor on their own about that professor being their Scholar match.

The Sparkman Fellow program runs through the academic year from fall to spring. Students graduating in the coming summer semester are not eligible to apply. Students graduating in the coming fall semester can apply; however, applicants graduating next spring (2021) or after will be prioritized.

Write an essay with two parts (1): In 250 words or less, please provide a synopsis of your global health or development experience and interests (2): In 500 words or less, describe how becoming a Sparkman Fellow would contribute to your future goals in global health or development.
