    Family Weekend Check- In

    Come meet with UAB staff and collect your all the materials for Family Weekend.

    Enjoy some light refreshments and chat with representatives from the various colleges and schools as well other departments and services on campus who are all here to help your student get involved outside the classroom and be successful inside the classroom.

    Legacy Pinning Ceremony
    Alumni House, 5:30 PM

    Calling all UAB Alumni Family members. Join the National Alumni Society for light refreshments and a short program which will include our NAS president and other legacy families. Parents will then be given the opportunity to pin their UAB student with a special Legacy lapel pin.

    UAB Volleyball v. North Texas*
    Bartow Arena, 7:00 PM

    Come support the UAB Volleyball team as they play against North Texas. Tickets are $3 for family members, but UAB students are free

    Movie Night
    Campus Green, 7:00 PM

    Previews begin at 6:30 PM

    Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and join us for a night under the stars to watch Top Gun Maverick on the Campus Green.

    The City of Birmingham has many different attractions and events to ensure entertainment for the entire family. Several local attractions have created UAB Family Weekend rates. Choose your adventure with your registration! For UAB students to participate in a Birmingham excursion, they will need to have a purchased ticket. You can purchase additional tickets during registration.

    UAB Family Football Tailgate
    Protective Life Stadium, Blazer Village, 11:30 AM

    Enjoy an afternoon of tailgate games, food, and fun before going to watch the Blazers taken on University of Southern Florida (USF). Meet with representatives from across campus, experience Blazer Walk, the official welcome of the Blazers to Protective Stadium before the game and hang out in Blazer Village. The Fan Zone inside Blazer Village will have interactives including inflatable games, temporary tattoos, face painting, photo opportunities, and more. Join in a competitive game of Bingo.

    Come cheer on our Blazers as they take on USF. Family member tickets are included with FW registration. UAB students sit in the UAB student section for free, however, if a student would like to sit with family, they will need a purchased ticket for $10.

  • SUNDAY, OCTOBER 8

    UAB Recreation -Adventure Rec Trip*
    Devils Den waterfall and Mount Cheaha, 8:30 AM

    Go on a fun adventure to the highest point in the state of Alabama and enjoy a guided hike to a series of waterfalls in the Cheaha Wilderness area. Max capacity of 20. (Five minimum participants required to run the trip). Registration deadline, Friday, September 22, 2023. Guides and transportation for hiking will be provide. $75 per participant. (Children must be at least 7 years or older to participate)

    Join us for a traditional Sunday brunch at our all you can eat dining facility. $20 for family members, but UAB students are free with meal swipe

  • UAB Recreation Activities

    UAB URec will offer access to all registered parents to the Campus Recreation Center any time between 10/6-10/8. To access the Campus Rec Center please complete this waiver prior to each visit and turn it in upon arrival at the Welcome Desk.

    UFit (Group Fitness) Classes
    All registered participants can also join all UFit (Group Fitness) Classes during the Family Weekend. You can view the current UFit Schedule here:
    https://www.uab.edu/students/universityrecreation/programs1/fitwell. Participants who would like to take advantage of UFit can simply go to the Recreation Center. Please note that space in each class is limited and priority will be based on first come, first serve basis.

    Itinerary
    8:30 AM Arrive at UAB Adventure Rec Center.
    9:00 AM Depart UAB Rec Center for Mount Cheaha State Park.
    11:00 AM - 1:00 PM Hike at Mount Cheaha State Park and grab lunch from the state park store/restaurant.
    1:15 PM Depart to Cheaha Wilderness Area.
    1:45 PM Hike Devil’s Den Waterfall
    4:00 PM Depart Devil’s Den Waterfall
    5:30 PM Arrive at UAB Rec Center
