During the 2018 National Association of Student Personnel Advisors (NASPA) General Assembly, UAB student Juhee Agrawal won the “Best in Show” award.

Agrawal, a junior double majoring in neuroscience and Spanish, participated in the NASPA General Assembly where over 80 presentations were given on topics that included mental health, violence prevention, sexual responsibility and more.

Conference attendees voted for the presentation session they felt was the best in the conference, and Agrawal’s “Mental Health Language Sensitivity Training” received the most votes.

In her presentation, Agrawal discussed the appropriate terminology to use when discussing mental health. Her talk intended to create better ways to decrease mental health stigma. These methods involved using “person-first language” that make the social environment around mental health more effectively.

Agrawal continues to work on helping her community through her contributions as a Promoter of Wellness (POW) and as president of Active Minds. POW offers students a chance for peer coaching and peer education. Active Minds creates opportunities to learn more about mental health and the conversation around it.
