UAB is welcoming Michael Sam, NCAA All-American Football Player, on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. Sam will be speaking to students in the Hill Student Center Ballroom with a Q&A following the lecture. This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 7:00 p.m.

Sam was a seventh-round pick of the St. Louis Rams and also spent time on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad. Apart from his accomplishments linked with being a standout football player for the University of Missouri, Sam is notable for making history by becoming the first openly-LGBT player to be drafted into the NFL, along with any major American sport. He came out to his teammates at the University of Missouri, and has since been known as a trailblazer for inclusion in sports. Despite scrutiny and disapproval, Sam has made a tremendous impact in both the LGBT communities and sports world.
