Take Back The Night Reach Screen 1Wellness Promotion will be teaming up with other UAB departments to use Sexual Assault Awareness Month as an opportunity to educate students on matters pertaining to sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and/or sexual violence. Events are throughout the week of April 10-14 and will inform students on sexual assault, host a rally and march to end sexual assault, as well as ways they can receive support if they have been affected by sexual violence. Events will be open to all UAB students, faculty, and staff.

Event Schedule:

Wounded Heart Project // April 10 // 6:00 p.m.
Blount Hall
Students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to stop by to write encouraging words and quotes on heart shape cutouts in partnership with the Birmingham Crisis Center. The hearts will line the walls in the rooms of those who have been affected by rape or sexual assault.

Audrie & Daisy Film Screening & Panel Discussion //  April 11 // 6:00 p.m.
Hill Student Center, Alumni Theater
The netflix documentary "Audrie & Daisy" tells the story of two towns on different sides of America, where two teenage girls pass out while intoxicated at high school parties and, while unconscious, both are sexually assaulted by boys they call friends. In the aftermath, the girls each endure online harassment, both attempt suicide, and tragically, one dies. The film explores this new public square of shame from the perspective of the teenagers and their families.

Take Back the Night //  April 13 // 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Blazer Hall Residence Life Center
Take Back the Night is an annual event that UAB has been holding for (at least) the past 15 years. Our event will include information tables from campus and community partners regarding support services for survivors of sexual violence in all its forms, survivor stories, and a march to protest sexual violence as well as free t-shirts to the first 150 who attend. 

"That Don't Fly" T-Shirt Day // April 14 // 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Hill Student Center
We are asking those who have the “That Don’t Fly” t-shirt to wear it that day as a visible means of solidarity that UAB does not tolerate any form of sexual violence. If you would like a That Don’t Fly t-shirt or want more information on how to support this program please visit our table in the Hill Student Center during the lunch hour.
