2017 Miss Alabama PageantMiss UAB took home a $1,500 scholarship and a talent award for her exceptional performance in the 2017 Miss Alabama Pageant. 48 contestants competed for the title from June 7-10 at Samford University’s Wright Center, including six contestants who were current or former students of UAB.

“We’re super proud of Harley’s commitment throughout this year’s Miss Alabama competition,” said Jessica Brown, coordinator of Student Activities and the University’s Miss UAB Pageant. “Her personality, intelligence, talent and commitment to service shined beautifully. The UAB community is very proud.”

During the pageant, the 48 contestants are divided into competition groups called Mu, Alpha, and Sigma and evaluated on the following categories:

Private Interview - 25%; On-Stage Question - 5%; Talent - 35%; Evening Wear - 20%; and Lifestyle and Fitness Swimwear - 15%.

Jessica Procter, 21, of the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa was crowned Miss Alabama 2017 during the pageant finale.

Approximately $100,000 in cash scholarships is awarded to the hopefuls every year before the new Miss Alabama is even crowned. Every contestant is also awarded a scholarship for participation. They earn more money with scholarships selected for them by the organization's scholarship committee.
