Student Experience

On Monday, Sept. 17, UAB Student Counseling Services will host its 3rd Annual Mental Health Town Hall. This open conversation on mental health will focus on three main topics: “Identities and Stigma,” “Faculty and Staff Role in Mental Health” and “Self Care.” Student representatives, faculty, and staff, including UAB President Ray Watts, will lead the panel.

  • “Identities and Stigma” focuses on the way different identities, such as gender, race and sexual orientation, are approached.
  • “Faculty and Staff Role” will discuss faculty and staff support and awareness of mental health.
  • “Self Care” gives panel members time to share their stories as well as suggestions and tips on mental health and self-help.

Several groups are returning to support the town hall, such as the Zeta Chapter of Sigma Iota, Graduate Student Government and Active Minds.

The Mental Health Town Hall will be held in the HSC Alumni Theater. Tabling starts at 5:30 p.m., and the town hall begins at 6 p.m. Attendance is free.

Those interested in expressing their thoughts on mental health at UAB should visit and help shape the conversation.

Reach out to 205-934-5816 for any additional information on the town hall or to request disability accommodations.
