Umoja (Swahili for Unity) is a Black Student Awareness Committee (BSAC) traditional celebration to welcome students, faculty and staff to UAB. Hosted by SMDP, this event aims to create community for new students by introducing them to the campus and community leaders – members of the UAB family who will walk alongside them during their four-year journey as Blazers. UAB is the proud home to a robust and diverse population of international students, and there’s no better way to usher them back to campus than the highly-anticipated International Welcome Party!

Hosted by SMDP and International Mentors, this unique event offers students, as well as the UAB and surrounding Birmingham community, a fusion of cultural experiences in one location. Local vendors will provide an array of food options that expose attendees to Birmingham’s cuisine as well as culinary “reminders of home.” Student groups will also be present to educate international students about the involvement opportunities around campus.
