Sept. 20 is SafeZone training time!Calling all UAB students: there’s still time to register for the Fall 2017 SafeZone training sessions!

UAB's SafeZone program – a three-part workshop series coordinated by Student Multicultural & Diversity Programs – is meant to help students develop a deeper understanding of the concepts of gender, sex and sexuality and how these concepts impact their experiences and the experiences of others.

Participants can register for the trainings at uab.edu/SafeZone today. Upcoming training dates, times and locations for the Fall 2017 trainings include:

  • SafeZone 101 (Hill Student Center, Sept. 20, 2017, Room 316 at 5 p.m.) -- This training provides an introduction to gender, sex and sexuality. Participants will learn basic terminology about campus resources and what it means to be SafeZone certified.
  • SafeZone 201 (Hill Student Center, Oct.18, 2017, Room 203 at 5 p.m.) -- This training will give participants a chance to examine their own identities, learn about systemic privilege and oppression and how to become a social justice advocate on campus.
  • Trans 101 (Hill Student Center, Nov. 8, 2017, Room 204/206 at 5 p.m.) -- This general training will introduce participants to a more in-depth understanding of Trans identities and issues Trans people face on campus.
