BorderTRANS wants all Trans*, gender non-conforming and questioning identities at UAB to know that a warm and welcoming community of support awaits them this fall semester. BorderTRANS – an initiative of UAB’s Student Multicultural and Diversity Programs’ Gender & Sexuality Diversity department – is a safe space for individuals to share their experiences and create community in a welcoming and uplifting environment.

BorderTRANS offers a Trans-led safe space on the first Thursday of every month from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center (room 267). This space provides a number of vital resources and opportunities to undergraduate, graduate and professional students, including:

• opportunities to share questions and experiences regarding one’s gender identity,
• chances to build camaraderie in a community with like-minded individuals,
• access to UAB counselors on-site and
• help navigating UAB’s campus.

BorderTRANS will also host a series of social events throughout the semester. See the following schedule:

“I look forward to meeting all my T/GQ/GNC siblings this school year,” said Leucas Miller, intern coordinator of Trans student support. “My favorite part about facilitating borderTRANS is having the opportunity to connect with others who understand me – these are individuals who can relate to what I’m experiencing. I love being a part of a community where others can explore who they are and come closer to living life as their authentic selves. It’s really fulfilling.”

BorderTRANS is a free initiative coordinated in partnership with UAB Student and Multicultural Diversity Programs, Gender and Sexuality Diversity and Student Counseling Services.
