Scary Fun Spots to Celebrate Halloween

Best places to enjoy a frightful night


Sloss Fright Furnace

Have you really experienced Halloween in Birmingham if you haven’t been to Sloss during Halloween? Sloss Fright Furnace is an outdoor haunted house with rumors that the old factory is actually haunted. If you’re not quite into being terrified but still want to have the experience, Sloss also has a 25-foot outdoor screen that continually plays Halloween movie classics.


Halloween Night at Tin Roof—Oct. 31

The Tin Roof is an iconic Birmingham spot. Come in your best Halloween costume for a chance to win $200 from their costume contest.  Besides the traditional American pub food, there will be live music and, “a dance party on the patio.”


Highland Halloween—Oct. 31, 6-10 p.m.

Highland Avenue is in UAB’s back yard, and they’re hosting a Trick or Treat Trail. This isn’t your average trick or treating, this is for adults only with drinks, food, shops, live music and games. The trail stretches from Rojo all the way Highland Avenue with checkpoints you have to meet along the way. Last year’s trail had over 1,200 attendees, make sure you don’t miss out this year.


Halloween Dance-a-thon—Oct. 29, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Looking for a party? UAB’s campus recreation center is hosting a dance-a-thon with Zumba, Hip Hop and snacks. Both Zumba and Hip Hop are fitness classes that you can take at the rec center any time. Come in your best Halloween costume to compete in the costume contest and win prizes.


Warehouse 31

Housed at the site of a tragic accident, Warehouse 31 has a real-life horror story history. It’s not just the history that’s scary, though. Warehouse 31 has intense escape rooms, an out-of-this-world 3D experience and a traditional haunted house in an old warehouse. They have thrills for every kind of Halloween fanatic.


Nightmare at 3008 Haunted House

This haunted house attraction was ranked in 2018 as the “number one must-see haunt in Alabama,” according to their website. Nightmare at 3008 has three different haunted house themes: one takes place in the Louisiana Bayou, one in dark streets and another in the woods of an old campsite. It’s not all scary, though. Nightmare donates part of their profit to Children’s of Alabama Childhood Cancer Research every year. 


TWC Fall Festival—Oct. 31 5-9 p.m.

If haunted houses aren’t your thing but you still want to show off your Halloween costume, this is the event for you. TWC’s fall festival is a family-friendly event with inflatables, carnival games, face painting and food trucks.


A Nightmare on 22nd Street—Oct. 31, 8 p.m.

Hosted by Iron City, A Nightmare on 22nd is a Halloween party for adults. There will be live music, trick-or-treating, costume contestsspooky-themed drinks and Halloween movies playing on a big screen. If you’re looking for a casual and fun night out, this may be right up your alley.
