The UAB Blazers dominated South Alabama to remain perfect with a 3-0 start to the season. The Blazers led 28-3 at half and finished the Jaguars off with a final score of 35-3.

With this win against the Jaguars, Blazers extend their home winning streak to 14 games. The Blazers have one of the longest active home game winning streaks in the country, comparable with powerhouses such as Alabama and Clemson.

The UAB offense found success through the air and on the ground, finishing with 514 yards. Offensively the Blazers averaged 7 yards per play, converting for 26 first downs. Defensively, Blazers held the Jaguars to 190 yards.

Tyler Johnston III led the Blazers offensively in the passing game with 3 touchdowns, throwing for 313 yards and one interception. On the ground, Spencer Brown scored two touchdowns and carried for 85 yards.

The Blazer offense rose to the occasion on third downs and converted 9 of the 13 chances. Johnston III and his offense controlled the game; having possession of the football for about 40 minutes. The offense took advantage of each drive, using the clock to their advantage and making each play count.

The Jaguars were left with only 20 minutes of possession and could never get things going in the right direction offensively. With the Blazer offense taking long drives down the field, the defense was able to come out rested each time the Jaguars had possession of the football.

Noah Wilder lead Blazers defensively with 8 tackles. Garrett Marino came up big with two sacks. Overall, the Blazer defense combined for 5 sacks, allowing only a field goal from the Jaguars.

A dominant win is exactly what the Blazers needed after a slower start to the season than fans expected. With a strong showing on both sides of the ball by UAB, team morale is high and Blazer nation should feel good heading into week 5 of college football.

The Blazers will now go on the road to face the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers. The Hilltoppers will head into this matchup 1-2, hungry for a win at home. This will be the Blazers’ first test in C-USA play, the first of many heading into a 4 game stretch against C-USA opponents.

UAB vs. WKU is set to kickoff this Saturday at 6 p.m. and can be streamed via ESPN+. The next home game will be on October 5th against Rice at Legion field.
